Wintek Corp. Is Raising NT$10 Billion in a Syndicated Bank Loan

Taipei, Nov. 8, 2012 (CENS)--To further expand touch-module production capacity at its Vietnamese factory, Taiwan-based Wintek Corp. is raising NT$10 billion (US$333.3 million) in a syndicated bank loan, saying it is scheduled to raise monthly capacity from one million to two million by the end of this year to fill orders for Windows 8 touch control portable devices.

Industry sources say the small- and medium-sized touch panels mainly are dominated by the in-cell technology camp, while about 95% larger-sizes touch panels adopt the OGS (One Glass Solution) architecture.

An official of WitsView Technology Corp., a LCD market research firm, says, in addition to the in-cell technology, more and more film-type and OGS architectures would be adopted in smart mobile devices and notebook PCs, resulting in more technology-diversified touch-control industry. However, Apple`s new 7.85-inch iPad mini has discarded the traditional Glass on Glass (G/G) touch technology to turn to the brand new GF(Glass on Film)2 architecture, he said.

To cope with the Windows 8 era with a strong demand for touch panels used in ultrabooks and notebook PCs, Wintec has been aggressively developing business, having completed its front-section production process for touch panels, as well as allied with some touch-sensor makers. Wintec issued US$100 million in global depository receipts (GDRs) to purchase raw materials.

After securing upstream production capacity, Wintec is expanding the production capacity at its factories in Dongguan, Guangdong Province of China, and Vietnam.
