NI Collaborates with TU

National Instruments is collaborating with TU-Dresden on a project to investigate technologies for 5G wireless systems.

This is early research in the Dresden-based university in to 5G wireless systems which will eventually follow 4G mobile technology which is currently being deployed.

"TU-Dresden is one of the world's top research universities, and they're leading the way in groundbreaking research to prototype next-generation wireless communication systems,"said Dr.James Truchard, president,CEO and co-founder of National Instruments.

TU-Dresden works with the Vodafone Chair Mobile Communications Systems

carrying out research in wireless communications technologies including networks, equipment and semiconductors.

The current focus lies on physical layer research, with a special emphasis on wireless radio network problems(wireless networks capacity),wireless modems(baseband algorithms),RF imperfections, and IC implementation architectures."National Instruments RF and communications tools will enable us to design OFDM prototyping systems within a single software design flow,"said Dr.Gerhard Fettweis, head of the Vodafone Chair Mobile Communications Systems.

"With the modular NI PXI system,we can start with a SISO link and expand to complex MIMO configuration with limited modifications to the code, exceeding an 8x8 setup,as our research evolves."The chair was founded in September 1994 by an endowment of Mannesmann Mobilfunk GmbH,Düsseldorf,Germany. After the acquisition of Mannesmann Mobilfunk by Vodafone Group Ltd.in 2000,the chair changed its name to Vodafone Chair.Software is at the heart of everything
