Saying everything is"bunk"and"baloney",pretending to swap your knees over when you dance and living in times of deep economic woe:that's right, the opulent style and glamour of the'20s is set to make a comeback this year,in no small part due to the upcoming film of the Great Gatbsy.
And while a'20s renaissance is set to influence everything from weddings to hipster fashions,it's also tipped to be a big theme for interior designs.
Well, that's according to freelance interior design journalist and style guru Ellie Tenant, who put down her exquisite cigarette holder for just long enough to tell us the big design trends for the summer.
"Everybody is talking about the Jubilee, and I'm sure we will be decorating in a temporary way for Jubilee tea parties with bunting and things,"says Ellie."But in a more permanent home decor way,I don't think realistically we're all going to run out and paint our homes red, white and blue.
"One of the main trends I'm really seeing come through is a kind of'20s-inspired,art deco look.Perhaps because of the recession it's been very fashionable to be pared back and simple recently, but one of the things I've really seen coming through is a glamorous, decadent kind of look-lots of mirrored surfaces, lots of art deco patterns. It's a real antidote to the pared back simplicity that we've had."
And according to Ms Tenant, that means sumptuous purples and gold finishes, bronze cushions and ornate, art deco patterns sprinkled through your home with wallpapers and lampshades.
Modern ceiling lights can also make a splash as part of a subtle,deco-themed update to your home, while recessed downlights can help those 20's-inspired mirror surfaces really sparkle.
"It's not realistic to say,'oh my,art deco's in,I must go and redecorate my home',"says Ellie, who instead advises homeowners go a little more subtle."You can bring that trend into your home in little ways."
