German automaker BMW unveiled new “connected car” features including apps from Samsung and new attachment points for GoPro cameras, and smart home integration at the IFA 2015 show in Berlin.
The company's flagship BMW i3 and BMW i8 use an integrated SIM card that is designed to make a connection between drivers, their vehicles and the outside world.
The company has released BMW i Remote app for Samsung Galaxy Gear S2 smartwatch which will allow BMW i3 users to access the car's functions through their smartwatch.
Users will also be able to monitor car's battery charge level, operating range, and navigation on the smartwatch.
The integrated SIM card will also allow users to request and operate remote functions of the BMW i3 using the BMW i Remote smartphone app on their smartphone.
BMW users will also be able to make use of the GoPro app to operate from inside a BMW, and GoPro cameras will be available from the Original BMW Accessories range which will include Holders and attachment systems designed especially for BMW vehicles.
The company has also introduced Smart Home apps to allow users to control in-building functions, such as heating, from the car, and drivers will also be notified if the burglar alarm gets activated.
With the smart home integration drivers will also be notified about water leaks or intruder alerts in their homes.
