German automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has chosen Garmin, a developer of consumer, aviation and marine technologies for the Global Positioning System, to supply navigation systems.
The navigation systems will be integrated in the infotainment systems of the future Mercedes-Benz models in the upcoming four years.
Apart from displaying navigation and maps on the in-dash display, the system will provide driver information about the next turn at a glimpse on a second display, which will be positioned behind the steering wheel.
Features of the navigation software will include voice command functionality, rotary controlled navigation functions and will also offer critical positioning information for advanced driver assistance (ADAS).
Garmin product portfolio includes in-vehicle electronics, infotainment and telematics systems that offer services including navigation software, location-based services, and integrated portable navigation systems.
