Honda, Toyota and Nissan have jointly recalled about three million vehicles, due to defective air bags problem.
The recall affects 1.14 million vehicles by Honda that include 107,000 are in Canada, while Toyota recalls total of 1.73 million vehicles including 580,000 in North America and about 75,000 units in Canada.
Nissan Motors has recalled about 480,000 vehicles across the globe.
Honda has recalled the 2001 to 2003 model years of Civics, Acura, CR-V and Odyssey vehicles, while Toyota has recalled 2003 model year Corolla, Matrix, Sequoia, and Tundra vehicles, along with 2002 and 2003 Lexus SC vehicles.
Defective air bags were installed in the vehicles due to two human errors during production that include the switching off of the defective products weeding out system and improper storage of the parts.
According to Honda Canada, the airbag inflators in affected vehicles may deploy with too much pressure, which may cause the inflator to rupture and cause possible injuries.
The recall also affects Mazda Motor's RX-8 and Mazda 6 vehicles from the 2004 model year.
