Dong Sung has developed a CFRTP technology for production of light weight composite material which can be used by automotive industry.
Dong Sung has succeeded in developing CFRTP (CFRTP: Carbon fiber-reinforced Thermoplastics) technology and leading the growth of the composite materials industry.
Dong Sung CORP., which is a composite materials company including basic petrochemical, precision chemical and polymer new materials, is composed of five business divisions such as two production plants in Yeosu and Ulsan, and petrochemical, precision chemical and polyurethane divisions.
In addition, Materials supplier Dongsung has purchased Doha industry, a Korea company that supplies automobile, farming machine and aircraft. Dongsung said the deal strengthens its portfolio of lightweight materials for the automotive and aircraft industry.
Dong Sung CORP., R&D Center succeeded in developing CFRTP technology which can form major industrial parts within one minute by impregnating high strength carbon fiber into thermoplastic resin compound through high speed high performance system of carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastics.
Because the CFRTP developed by Dong Sung CORP., doesn't need long-time Curing process. This new process can produce uniform CF composite sheets without a void space and is an effective method for the mass production of thermoplastic/carbon fiber composites.
To make it possible to commercialize these products for automotive applications and other markets, the process needs to possess a high cycle speed for the press molding. It also has advantages like flexible design and recycling.
Dong Sung CORP. has received Asia's Innovation Award at 2014 'JEC ASIA Composite show&Conference' with this technology, and thermoplastic prepreg, LFT/Prepreg hybrid overmolding materials, CFRTP-applied seat frame and organo sheet to prove its composite materials related technology.
An official of Dong Sung CORP. said, "We can reduce the weight of automotive parts through CFRTP technology," and said, "We expect that it can be applied to all industries related to composite materials such as auto, aviation and construction materials."
