Chrysler Will Recall 2.7 Million Vehicles in The US, Over a Problem with The Leaking Fuel

Automobile manufacturer Chrysler will recall 2.7 million vehicles in the US, over a problem with the leaking fuel tank.

The recall affects Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured between 1994 and 2003 as well as Jeep Liberty vehicles produced from 2002 to 2007, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Under the recall, the manufacturer will conduct a visual inspection of the vehicles and carry on the necessary upgrades and replacements.

The company said in a statement that its analysis of the data confirms that these vehicles are not defective and are among the safest in the peer group.

"Nonetheless, Chrysler Group recognizes that this matter has raised concerns for its customers and wants to take further steps, in coordination with NHTSA, to provide additional measures to supplement the safety of its vehicles," the company added.

In June 2013, the automaker had refused NHTSA's request to issue the recall of the vehicles.

Earlier, the company had recalled 15,000 units of 2013 model year Dodge Dart cars that are powered by the 1.4L four-cylinder engines mated to dual-clutch automatic transmissions over the engine stalling problem.
