Global marketing services firm HH Global has launched a new peelable lidding film solution for ready meals, named Lidd.
The new patented film solution, developed by a collaboration of HH Global and Parkside Flexibles (Europe), phases out the need for cardboard sleeves.
It comprises a two layer film lamination which seals the product as well as displays the usual printed marketing information with branding on the upside and nutritional information on the reverse portion.
The innovative packaging model allows Lidd to reduce packaging weights by more than 45% and reaps packaging cost cuts of at least 10%.
Expected to lead to packaging weight reduction of 600 tonnes annually, the product is likely to lead to cost savings of about $1,000,000 per year.
The new product can be used in any type of environment such as ambient/chilled or frozen, on plastic, aluminium or paper/plastic tray combinations.
HH Global CMO Tony Massey said the Lidd represents a quantum leap in food packaging development.
"By utilising the new solution, very significant savings can be unlocked across all ready meal product ranges. As such, we truly believe that this technology has the potential to revolutionise the food packaging market, worldwide," Massey added.
Besides drop in weight and rise in environmental performance, the product is expected to reduce warehousing and transportation, said the company.
