BRIAN Hartzer, one of Westpac's most senior bankers, has talked down the competitive advantages derived from complete overhauls of core banking platforms, saying it was focused more on improving customer experience to gain an advantage over its rivals.
"How many sources of genuine competitive advantage from technology have you seen any big bank create in the last 20 years? I can't think of many. I don't think that's a coincidence," Mr Hartzer told analysts in a conference call today.
