Switzerland-based robotics and automation technology firm ABB has notched up an order to the tune of $52m for catalyzing the efficiency of new manufacturing unit of Changan Ford Automobile in Harbin, China, with its robots to produce Ford’s Focus model.
The robots - IRB 6700 and IRB 7600 - will be pressed into action for the highly-automated 'Body in White' welding output line, which also incorporates flexible car body conveying system and laser welding system.
Besides, the ABB will also offer its GateFramer car body framing positioning system as part of the order for adding the capability of making up to six cars on the same production line with an 18-second gap for shifting to different variant.
ABB discrete automation and motion division - president Pekka Tiitinen said: "Changan Ford and ABB have a longstanding relationship, and we are pleased to see ABB's solid reputation for providing outstanding and reliable technology and excellent project management capabilities gain customer recognition once again.
"Improving industrial productivity is one of the major drivers of ABB's business growth under the 'Next Level' strategy. ABB's flexible, intelligent manufacturing technologies help customers effectively reduce their investment costs and enhance their productivity and respond to the market needs in a timely fashion."
The IRB 6700 robots breed, launched in the market in 2013, has been stated to be 15% more energy efficient as against its predecessors.
The company will also extend its robotic Roller Hemming system to Changan Ford, which can be put to use for the output of vehicles' four doors and roof.
ABB has been partnering with Changan Ford since 2007, offering its robots to facilitate production of Ford Mondeos at plants in Chongqing.
