Daimler is planning to expand the production of its twelve-cylinder V12 biturbo engines at its manufacturing facility in Mannheim, Germany.
The company said that it took the measure due to strong customer demand for its high-performance automobiles featuring the engine.
The engine is used in cars including Mercedes-AMG S 65, S 65 Coupe, G 65 and SL 65.
Daimler highlighted that the it will continue with the AMG, "one man, one engine" philosophy and engineers who are involved with the assembly of the twelve-cylinder engines at the AMG headquarters in Affalterbach will be shifted to the eight-cylinder engines lines.
The company said that it has trained its employees from Mannheim in Affalterbach for the new task that lies ahead of them.
Daimler is planning to expand the production of V8 engines at Affalterbach.
The Mannheim facility will also be renovated to keep up with the expansion and it will also get a separate assembly line for the V12 engines from AMG.
Mercedes-AMG chairman Tobias Moers said: "Due to the strong demand for our automobiles, our production capacities at the Affalterbach engine production facility are fully utilized,"
"Supplying our customers as fast as possible is highly important to us. We do not have any possibilities for expansion in Affalterbach at present, so we have decided to transfer the assembly of the twelve-cylinder engines to the Daimler site in Mannheim."
The production of the V12 biturbo engines at Mannheim are expected to start in February next year.
