Nissan plans investing Euro 130 million (178 million dollars) to Barcelona factory in Spain, where produced a new compact model.
Nissan announced that it will produce this new car in Barcelona factory by 2014, which annual output is 80,000 vehicles. The investment will create 1,000 jobs and 3,000 related jobs. Barcelona factory now produces Pathfinder SUV, Navar and NV200, and the new compact model will be the first car it produces.
The car will compete with Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus and other mainstream compact cars in the future. Nissan stopped selling Almera in Europe in 2006, and never produces compact cars after that.
Nissan will also invest Euro 14 million in Barcelona, adding up 24,000 to Navar’s annual output; and will invest Euro 6 million to produce driving systems for wind electric vehicles and eNV200 electric vehicles.
According to Nissan’s regional plan, the new compact car will produce in Sunderland factory of United Kingdom, but it was replaced by Infiniti compact cars, which will be produced by 2015.
