Toshiba 16-Element Flexible Coil System Is Cleared by FDA

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared Toshiba America Medical Systems' 16-element flexible coil system, designed to improve MR exam efficiency and image quality.

The new coil system, which is developed in collaboration with NeoCoil, is available in medium and large sizes and are suited for general orthopedic and body imaging of large and small patients alike.

NeoCoil chief operating officer Steve Nichols said the 16-element MR coils feature a flexible design, enabling clinicians to use the coils for various exam types.

"The light-weight coils come in two sizes and wrap around a patient's anatomy, accommodating patients of various sizes and providing greater patient comfort," Nichols added.

The company said the 16-element flexible coil is available for the Vantage Titan 1.5T which conforms more closely to the anatomy and improves signal-to-noise ratio.

Toshiba MR business unit director Stuart Clarkson said the company is committed to develop and bring new technologies to market for its MR systems.

"The Vantage Titan systems are patient-friendly, and the new 16-element coils will continue to provide comfortable exams while improving image quality for accurate diagnoses," Clarkson added.
