UK-based packaging firm Frugalpac has developed a new recyclable coffee cup to meet the needs of world’s major coffee brands.
Entrepreneur Martin Myerscough and his UK team at Frugalpac have partnered with Intertek to establish the viability of new proposed recyclable cup.
The team has conducted recycling trials, tested the cup’s functional performance, and measured the cup’s carbon footprint.
Frugalpac CEO Martin Myerscough said: “We started with an idea, but through working with Intertek, we were able to test and prove the viability and environmental impact of our innovation, which has attracted the interest of companies including Starbucks and Caffé Nero that desire environmentally responsible products.”
Intertek health environmental and regulatory services sustainability group head Gary Parker said: “In a market where innovation is essential, measuring and proving the environmental impact of a product is of utmost importance.
Developed using recycled paper board, the new Frugalpac cup can be recycled in normal paper recycling mills unlike traditional coffee cups.
Parker added: “The success of this product is based on simple good design which facilitates recycling in the real world. Intertek is delighted to be part of this process.”
In Decemer 2015, Intertek said it has expanded testing and consulting services to help food packaging companies in meeting non-intentionally added substance (NIAS) regulatory requirements.
