There are approximately 324 million people who live in the U.S. And around 140 million customers visit Walmart in person or online every week, many of them checking off their grocery lists. But what’s behind those numbers? Well, a lot of things. Here’s a look at six ways we’ve dug in to the food business over the years.
Dating Back to 1988
Combining grocery and general merchandise in one store sounds simple because it’s all many Americans have ever known. But Walmart was one of the first major retailers to do it, giving you the Supercenter. With well over 3,000 locations across America today, the concept went over pretty well.
Being a Neighbor
The Supercenter was and still is incredibly practical and popular, but the Neighborhood Market gives customers a smaller-footprint option. The ease, location and selection of Neighborhood Markets make them a staple in a lot of our customers’ lives … and neighborhoods.
So Fresh
We’re passionate about fresh foods and work to offer customers the best produce possible. How? We’re working with local farmers around the country, training our associates better on how to properly handle produce and more. We literally won’t stop improving on how we can deliver fresher goods to our customers. You could say we’re pretty obsessed.
Good Food. Getting Better Every Day.
Food quality and our customers’ food interests are two of the most important things to focus on when it comes to getting the right products on our shelves. That’s why we opened the Culinary and Innovation Center this year. It’s a physical location where our buyers can test products, have other associates sample foods and gather feedback. Then our merchant teams, in partnership with our suppliers, can improve on those products. So think of this new center as our official grocery lab.
Only at Walmart
There are two words that sum up the way we approach our private brands: quality and value. With Great Value, Sam’s Choice and Marketside and others, Walmart offers customers high-quality products that make them happy at prices that do the same. We believe that high-quality food doesn’t have to be priced high, and we’re all systems go on proving that true for customers.
An Easy Experience
Grocery shopping is something we all have to do. But with busy schedules, it’s not always something everyone wants to do. And we know that. That’s why we’ve added services like online grocery pickup in several markets (you can enter your ZIP code here to see if it’s offered in your area), so that our customers can order their products online in the comfort of wherever they want to be, then pick them up and get back to the things they enjoy (or need to do) most. Same great prices at a fraction of the time!
