Scientists from Technical University of Munich (TUM) unveiled a car named Visio.M EV concept, an electric vehicle which looks similar to the BMW i3.
The car is powered by an electric motor which has a 13.5 kWh lithium-ion battery facilitates the car to go up to 75 mph.
Experts believe that the total cost of ownership will be lower than that of a comparable combustion engine car.
For passenger safety the car is equipped with multi-section monocoque in the passenger compartment to protect the passengers during crash.
There is a safety concept in the car which includes a systematic anticipatory analysis of the surrounding traffic using 360° monitoring that makes it possible to detect tricky driving situations.
TUM Prof. Markus Lienkamp said: "With the Visio.M we have demonstrated that it is possible to build a very light and at the same time safe car with overall costs that we expect to be lower than those of comparable combustion-engine cars.
"But it is still a long way to serial production because almost all components must be adapted to the manufacturing conditions of large series."
