Burton's Biscuit Is Investing €4.6m at Its Facility in Llantarnam

UK-based Burton’s Biscuit is investing £4.6m at its facility in Llantarnam, south Wales to boost production and support new product development, a move which safeguards 800 jobs at the facility.

The new investment is part of the company's strategy to invest £13.5m this year at its facilities in Welsh, Edinburgh, Blackpool in Lancashire, and at Moreton in Merseyside.

The Llantarnam plant has been selected to deploy control room baking systems. It is one of the company's three production facilities in the UK and employs 800 people.

The facility manufactures nearly two tons of Wagon Wheels snack every hour. It also produces Cadbury's Fingers, Jammie Dodgers and Maryland Cookies.

Burton's Biscuit Llantarnam facility general manager Wayne Thompson said that it is important for the company to monitor its production activities, and the new technology will allow it to do this as well as provide opportunity to train employees.

Burton's Biscuit was formed from the merger of Burton's Gold Medal Biscuits and Horizon Biscuit in October 2000, and re-branded from Burton's Foods to Burton's Biscuit in November 2011.

The company's products include Cadbury Digestives, Cadbury Fingers, Lyons Coconut Delights, Lyons Cookies, Lyons Digestive, Lyons Fig Rolls, Lyons Jam Teacakes, Lyons Toffypops and Jammie Dodgers among others.
