Canadian food processing company Maple Leaf Foods has shut down its wiener production facility in Hamilton, Ontario, leading to a loss of 26 jobs.
The company, along with the remaining 187 staff, has moved operations to the new prepared meats Heritage facility in the same city.
Maple is also planning to shift the production from four other plants to the Heritage facility by the end of 2014.
Maple Leaf Foods president and CEO Michael McCain said the company is in the final phase of completing a transformation of prepared meats network.
"We have established world-class facilities and technologies to step-change our profitability and competitiveness," McCain added.
Approximately 88% of the closed plant's workforce has been provided employment at the new Heritage facility, according to Maple.
Maple Leaf Foods, headquartered in Toronto, Canada, employs approximately 18,000 people at its operations across Canada and in the US, the UK, and Asia.
