US-based automotive parts supplier Lear Corporation has opened a new automotive parts manufacturing facility in Kenitra, Morocco in the northern Region of Africa.
The new facility will see production of wire harnesses and electrical distribution systems for the global automotive industry and also design and deliver electrical distribution systems to support a full range of vehicle features and functions.
Lear will supply electrical distribution systems to major European automakers from the new 300,000ft2 facility in Kenitra.
Lear Electrical business segment senior vice president and president Frank Orsini said the company is proud to open another plant to support its growing electrical distribution business.
"The new Kenitra facility will support further profitable growth of our electrical distribution business," Orsini added.
Kenitra plant is expected to support Lear's other facilities in Morocco that produce automotive electrical distribution systems and electronic components such as junction boxes and electronic modules as well as automotive seating.
According to the company, the facility currently employs about 1,000 workers and will increase the number to 1,700 by the end of 2014.
