Yauk’s Specialty Meats is recalling about 90,000 pounds of certain meat and poultry products, as they were produced under insanitary conditions.
The products being recalled include 'Colorado Best Beef' brand fresh, smoked and shelf-stable meat products; 'James Ranch' brand jerky and summer sausage; 'Rocky Plains Meats' brand hams, bacon, raw and smoked sausage, jerky and raw poultry.
They also include 'John Long Farms' brand fresh and smoked pork products; 'Horned Beef' brand jerky; 'Mile High Hungarian Sausage' brand fresh and smoked bacon and sausage.
Packaged in retail-ready packaging of various sizes, the affected products feature the establishment number 'Est. 20309' or 'P-20309' inside the USDA Mark of Inspection.
Produced between 1 April 2013, and 5 December 2013, the products can be identified by four-digit Julian dates ranging between 3091 and 3339. They were sold at wholesalers and retailers in Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) commenced food safety assessment at the plant on 5 December and revealed that the products were being produced under insanitary conditions, including rodent activity in the production, storage and retail areas of the property.
The agency has suspended the assignment of inspectors at the establishment and is continuing the investigation.
There have been no reports of illnesses to date, due to consumption of these products. Those concerned about a reaction are advised to contact a healthcare provider.
