Toyota Sienna and RAV4 were recently tested by AMCI to determine the performance of the cars in snow and ice conditions.

The test determined that both the vehicles when equipped with all-wheel-drive (AWD) performed better in the areas of traction, handling and acceleration on icy road conditions.

Sienna AWD claimed to have performed better than its competitors equipped with front-wheel-drive option on icy conditions and gave equal cornering performance with compared to other SUV equipped with four-wheel-drive.

According to Toyota, its Sienna AWD system is equipped with a transfer case, which facilitates smooth delivery of power to an electromagnetic coupler on the rear differential, which divides engine power up to 50/50 in the front and rear.

The system allows the vehicle to handle handles wet and slippery roads in a better way.

Toyota claims that its advanced AWD system is capable of continuously monitoring and controlling the torque transfer between the front and rear wheels through an electromagnetically controlled coupling positioned in the rear differential.

The RAV4, equipped with a Dynamic Torque Control All-Wheel Drive system also provided better active-safety acceleration, handling and cornering performance when compared to its competitors.

Toyota also highlighted that Sienna's AWD system is available on passenger cars including XLE Limited, LE, and XLE and Limited Premium models, and the RAV4 AWD system is available on XLE, LE, and Limited models.
