South Korean automaker Hyundai has unveiled the next generation Sonata Hybrid featuring upgraded powertrain, advanced safety system, hybrid design, and convenience features.
The new hybrid version of Sonata will feature Nu 2.0-liter GDI hybrid engine along with a 38 kW electric motor.
The hybrid engine will be capable of producing 156 ps and 19.3 kg.m of torque while the 38 kW electric motor is expected to deliver 51 horsepower which is 8.6% more when compared to its predecessor.
With the new engine and electric motor, the car will have fuel consumption combination of 18.2 km/l with 16-inch wheels and 17.7 km/l with 17-inch wheels.
The electric motor will be equipped with lithium-polymer battery which is expected to provide 13.3% higher power capacity of 1.62 kilowatt-hours.
Hyundai has relocated the battery under the floor of the trunk, which will facilitate more cargo area.
Hyundai has revamped the design of the car with sharply-edged hexagonal grille with unique inner-grille pattern; hexagonal grille which will now aid cooling and aerodynamic efficiency, along with slimline LED daytime running lights.
The new Sonata Hybrid is +35 mm longer and +30 mm wider than its previous model, and features a longer wheelbase which will facilitate more interior space.
Sonata Hybrid also includes advanced safety systems featuring Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Parking Sensors and Lane Change Assist.
