Reportedly India’s Tata steel UK, the second largest steel producer in Europe, has restarted a blast furnace in Britain.
Karl Kohler, chief executive of Tata Steel UK said it take the advantage of low steel demand to carry out major engineering projects. Restarting the furnace will shorten delivery. At present Tata use only one blast furnace and need to purchase slab and semi-finished steel product from other locations. The restarting of furnace would help boost Tata’s material self sufficiency and reduce related costs.
