US-based green automobile provider Genovation Cars is on its way to complete the prototype of Corvette named as ‘Genovation Extreme Electric’ or ‘GXE’, the assembly of which will conclude by this month.
Drawn from 2006 Z06 Corvette, the makeover has been provided by a team having an MIT electrical engineer and a mechanical engineer from Cosworth, among others.
The car, showing a 50/50 weight distribution for a low center of gravity optimization, will be capable of covering 150 miles under normal operation.
The new variant claims not to compromise any of its innate features, such as, power steering and power brakes, air conditioning and heating.
Genovation CEO Andrew Saul said: "We are using state of the art inverters, batteries and electric motors that will produce in excess of 700hp and 600lb-ft of torque...We expect the car to achieve 0-60mph in around three seconds and have a top speed of over 200mph. And, most of the parts are designed and built in America."
After the testing phase, the car will enter the fray in various raceways for establishing lap records and surpassing the 177mph top speed displayed by a Finnish prototype car.
Besides, the GXE will also find its place in Michigan in mid-September at Electric Vehicle Technology Expo.
