Walmart Has Issued a Statement About Its Trade Relationship with The Bangladesh RMG Firm

The US retail giant Walmart has issued a statement about its trade relationship with the Bangladesh readymade garment(RMG)factory that burnt down killing more than 110 workers in a fire accident.

According to a statement issued by Walmart,Tarzeen factory was no longer authorized to merchandise for the company.

But a supplier subcontracted work to Tarzeen factory firm without authorization and in direct violation of the company's policies,the statement said.

The retail company also informed that it has ended up the trade relationship with that supplier.

Walmart expressed its condolences to the family of the victims and mentioned that the company will continue to work across the Bangladesh apparel industry to improve fire safety,and by imparting education and training.

In 2011,Walmart ceased its collaboration with 49 factories in Bangladesh due to fire safety issues and the company organized a supply chain meeting focusing on fire safety which was attended by 160 RMG suppliers worldwide including Bangladesh.Through the supply chain meeting the US retailer distributed fire safety training films and other training materials.
