German automaker BMW Group and Japanese automaker Toyota have partnered for the development of a new hybrid sports car.
The new model will different than the replacement for the Z4 and for the Supra. Both firms will use German technology combined with Japanese reliability in developing the hybrid sports car.
The hybrid vehicle will be equipped with a front-engine including, petrol engine and electric motors, and a four-wheel drive layout, reported Autocar.
Toyota will offer its Le Mans LMP1 program expertise for the development of the high-tech supercapacitor touting hybrid system.
The supercapacitors are smaller and lighter and are capable of absorbing and discharging energy faster than the lithium-ion batteries.
BMW will manufacture the petrol engine with 2.0L capacity with a sequential manual transmission.
Exterior of the car will developed using carbon fiber reinforced plastic materials, while the interior design of the hybrid sports car will be different.
