US based underwriter Hortica Insurance and Employee Benefits (Hortica) has picked up the Inspection software solution from Risk Control Technologies, to streamline its loss control operations.
The underwriter was looking for a technology which can facilitate field data collection in the field using tablet devices, as well as automate other manual processes surrounding the loss control survey process, such as inspection assignment, routing, report preparation, recommendation management and reporting.
Hortica loss control manager Zachary Bruce said the firm initially approached Risk Control Technologies in search of a tablet solution for collecting data in the field.
"What we found, however, is that in addition to the field data collection, the RC Inspection product includes many more features which really makes it a full end-to-end loss control platform," Bruce added.
Hortica offers insurance solutions to Garden Centers, Nurseries, Retail Florists, Wholesale Floral Distributors, Greenhouse Growers, Landscape Contractors, and Interior Plantscapers.
The loss control team at Hortica conducts loss control field surveys throughout the country to help insureds to avert their business risks and exposures.
Hortica plans to outfit its field loss control representatives with tablets loaded with the RC Inspection field application for field data collection, enabling collection of risk data, photos, recommendations and diagrams in the field, even in locations without wireless broadband connections.
After gathering the required data in the field, it will be uploaded into a central database which allows underwriters to utilize the information in making underwriting decisions.
This central data repository is also equipped with data mining and reporting capabilities which have traditionally been unavailable in the paper-based loss control environment in which most insurers operate.
The solution will be delivered to Hortica on a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) basis by Risk Control Technologies, leveraging cloud technologies.
