Mitsubishi is reportedly in talks with Nissan for the development of a midsize vehicle.
Automotive News cited a source familiar with the matter as saying that the talks began after Mitsubishi's talks with Renault ended.
The company's Lancer sedan has become an old model and the company is also discontinuing the production of midsize Galant vehicle, which will leave a blank space in the lineup of vehicles offered by Mitsubishi in the US.
The publication cited a Mitsubishi spokesman as saying that the company might not replace Galant but a small successor to the Lancer is on works.
The car maker is giving more priority to develop Lancer replacement because of its demand in US and other markets around the world.
According to sources, the Mitsubishi- Renault talks did not materialize due to the increase in Korean currency against dollar and Japanese Yen weaken the profitability prospects.
