BMW Motorrad Has Designed a New Brake Light

BMW Motorrad has designed a new brake light, capable of issuing warning to following drivers when the motorcycle ahead of them suddenly brakes or is about to do so, as part of its ‘Strategy Safety 360’.

The system executes in two stages while issuing the warning when the motorcycle in front of a given vehicle resorts to hard braking or making an emergency stoppage.

The first stage comes into action when a motorbike decelerates from speeds above 50km/h as the light flashes with a frequency of 5 Hz.

The second stage chips in when the two-wheeler comes to a standstill speed below 14km/h. In this stage, the warning light flashes and continues to do so until it attains a speed of 20km/h.

The technology is available with the vehicles from model year 2016 for the models R 1200 GS, R 1200 GS Adventure and S 1000 XR. The K 1600 GT, GTL and GTL Exclusive luxury tourers will also flaunt the feature from model year 2016, stated to be a supplement to Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) Pro.

As against the conventional ones, the ABS Pro claims to offer an improved safety while braking in bends. The technology, which saves the motorcycle from locking, ultimately end up avoiding an unintentional rear up during braking.
