German chemical company BASF has commenced the construction of its new resin and electrocoat (e-coat) plant at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park in Shanghai.
This move by the company is to address demand for coatings solutions in various industries, specifically the automotive industry in Asia Pacific.
The company expects to start the operations at this new plant in the second half of 2015.
This new plant will be located adjacent to the company's new automotive coatings plant, which will start operations in the second quarter of 2014.
BASF Asia Pacific coatings solutions senior vice president Peter Fischer said that the new facility is a key component to further strengthen their local footprint.
"It will be a world-class resin and e-coat plant using the latest production technology for the manufacturing of advanced coatings," Fischer added.
