Mercedes-Benz Has Introduced The Nine-Speed Automatic Transmission with Torque Converter

German vehicle manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has introduced the new nine-speed automatic transmission with torque converter, the 9G-TRONIC in its E 350 BlueTEC engine.

The new transmission is claimed to have reduced the fuel consumption of the E-Class engine to 5.3L of diesel per 100km.

The E 350 BlueTEC V6 diesel engine with the new 9G-TRONIC transmission will deliver an output of 185kW, while offering CO2 emissions of 138g/km.

According to the company, the higher number of gears and the broader gear ratio spread help to increase drive comfort as well as allow the conversion of the engine power into traction.

The new transmission will come with the novel direct control system, combination of double torsional damper and centrifugal pendulum technology in the torque converter as well as extended gear ratio.

The new transmission allows the vehicles to be driven at speeds of 120km/h in 9th gear with an engine speed of about 1350rpm.

Fitted with two pumps, the 9G-TRONIC offers efficient supply of the durable and shear-resistant 2nd-generation synthetic fuel economy engine oil and its design allows the flow of lubrication and coolant to be controlled.

The 9G-TRONIC also has direct control system in a planetary automatic transmission that increases hydraulic efficiency within the transmission.
