Brazil-based miner Vale's giant iron ore vessel Valemax has entered an eastern Chinese port to unload a cargo of iron ore, according to media reports, though it is not clear if the ban on Vale's mega iron ore vessels imposed by China has been lifted.
Vale Malaysia, measuring over 400,000 dwt, is said to have entered Lianyungang port in China's Jiangsu Province on April 15 and to have left on April 17 after unloading its cargo. The China Shipowners' Association said that they have reported to issue to the China's National Development and Reform Commission and Ministry of Transport.
As SteelOrbis previously reported, in January 2012 the Chinese government banned large bulk carriers and tankers from entering Chinese ports.
