Rubicon Technology Inc of Bensenville, IL, USA, which makes monocrystalline sapphire substrates and products for the LED, RFIC, semiconductor and optical industries, has ranked 268th on Deloitte's Technology Fast 500 (conducted by Deloitte & Touche LLP), a ranking of the 500 fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications, life sciences and clean technology companies in North America. Technology Fast 500 award winners are selected based on percentage fiscal year revenue growth from 2007 to 2011. Rubicon grew 293% in the period.
"Rubicon is proud to be part of the Deloitte Technology Fast 500," said Raja M. Parvez, president and CEO of Rubicon. "Drawing on more than a decade of experience and our culture of innovation, Rubicon's technological leadership extends from raw material and crystal growth through finished sapphire wafers. This leadership enables Rubicon to deliver the highest quality, most reliable supply of industrial sapphire to meet the evolving and exacting specifications of their customers in the LED, RFIC/SoS and optical markets."
A vertically integrated firm, Rubicon grows large sapphire crystals from raw materials in custom-built, proprietary furnaces replicating the organic sapphire creation process found in nature. As a result, the firm says it has been able to scale the growth of bulk crystal from 30 kg to 85 kg to 200 kg without compromising high quality or high yield. To date, Rubicon has shipped more than 340,000 six-inch polished wafers to the LED and SoS markets.
