Nellson to Set up New Production Facility in Ontario, California

Nellson, a nutrition bar and powder provider in North America, has announced to invest $40m-50m to establish a new production facility in Ontario, California.

Based in Anaheim, California, Nellson is planning to have its Ontario plant fully operational by the first quarter of 2018.

The new facility would replace the aging plant at Irwindale in California. Irwindale had previously served as its headquarters until March this year.

The Ontario facility will be of 300,000ft2 and is expected to support future growth of the company by giving it optimal efficiency, along with increased production capacity and expansion space.

It will also have a research and development lab, segregated production lines, additional process capabilities and new packaging capabilities.

Nellson CEO Jamie Better revealed that initially they were plans of expanding the Irwindale facility itself to support the company’s growth but they were shelved as it was found that building a new facility would be a better option.

Better said: “In selecting the Ontario site, it was critically important to us that the new facility be within a short drive from the existing location as we want to retain our experienced workforce and all their bar-making expertise.”

In June, Nellson invested $15m at its Lachine nutritional bar manufacturing facility in Canada to add a new high-speed production line while unifying its operations in Lachine and Anjou.

Nellson, which has three production facilities in California, Utah, and Quebec, was acquired three years ago by Kohlberg & Company, a US-based private equity firm.
