Chrysler is planning to manufacture a new 2.4L engine at the Dundee plant, Michigan in the US to replace the old 1.4L FIRE engine in the Dodge Dart.
The company said that the 1.4L FIRE engine would be replaced due to its low power, which is also claimed to be responsible for the car's slow sale.
Chrysler spokeswoman Jodi Tinson said that the company has eliminated a shift of production of the FIRE engine.
"We have a new powertrain for the Dart coming online, and so we are rebalancing the mix for the Dart," Tinson said.
The company sold 25,303 Darts since the launch of the car in July 2012.
Chrysler is also planning to introduce a new nine-speed transmission on the Dart.
Dundee plant also produces 2L and 2.4L engines which are equipped on the Jeep Compass, Jeep Patriot and Chrysler 200.
