UK-based recycled packaging manufacturer DS Smith has completed the previously announced acquisition of Sweden-based Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget’s (SCA) packaging business for €1.7bn, excluding its two kraftliner mills in Sweden.
The kraftliner mills of SCA are well integrated with the company's forest products operations and are therefore not included in the sale, according to SCA.
In 2010, the packaging operations, excluding the two kraftliner mills registered net sales of about SEK24.2bn (€2.5bn) and an operating profit of about SEK1.1bn (€117m).
The European Commission competition authority gave its approval to DS Smith to acquire SCA Packaging, in May 2012.
SCA is a global hygiene and forest company and develops, produces personal care products, tissue, publication papers and solid-wood products and has brands including the global brands TENA and Tork.
