Global Packaging will expand its facility in the city of Hamlet in Richmond County, investing close to $9.8m that will lead to creation of 33 jobs over the next three years.
Based in Oaks, Pennsylvania, Global Packaging specialises in printing graphics on different film-based materials and converts them into bags or roll stock products.
It provides poly bags and printed rollstock for markets including personal hygiene packaging, frozen, fresh and bakery products, paper products and pet supplies.
North Carolina governor Pat McCrory said: "The products that Global Packaging makes in its Hamlet plant are used by companies all across the country. Now with this announced expansion, more 'made in North Carolina' products will be in people's homes."
The company also noted that the average annual salary at the facility employing 24 currently will be $33,634. The average annual wage of Richmond County is $31,140.
A performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund of up to $100,000 helped in financing the project.
The fund, with the help of local governments, provides financial assistance to companies and helps in encouraging economic activity and creating new jobs in the state.
The companies qualify for the reimbursement only after meeting job creation and investment performance standards.
US representative Richard Hudson said: "I'm thrilled to hear Global Packaging is growing its operations in Hamlet, bringing 33 new jobs and economic growth to our community. Richmond County has made critical investments to build a strong business climate, and I'll continue to work with state and local officials to maintain an environment that empowers local businesses to expand and create jobs."
A few other partners also contributed to the project, including North Carolina Community College System, Richmond Community College, Richmond County Economic Development, the City of Hamlet and Richmond County.
