Opel Has Equipped New 1.6L Sidi Gasoline Engine

German carmaker Opel has equipped its new 1.6L spark ignition direct injection (SIDI) gasoline engine in its three Astra variants.

The new engine comes as a replacement for the previous 1.6L Turbo petrol engine and generates an out put of 125kW/170hp and torque of 280 Nm, which is 50NM more compared to the older engine.

Opel Management Engineering Board member Mike Ableson said the company is delighted to make the engine available for its customers following its introduction in the Cascada and Zafira Tourer models.

"With this powerful and quiet new-generation Turbo, we are heading towards the top of the class - three times over with the five-door Astra, the Astra sedan and the Astra Sports Tourer," Ableson added.

According to the company, the engine uses fuel of 5.9L/100km, 14% less compared to its predecessors, 139g/km CO2 emissions, acceleration of 0-100km/h in 8.7sec and a top speed of 220km/h.

The three variants including five-door Astra, the sedan and Sports Tourer 1.6 SIDI Turbo are equipped with the six-speed manual gearboxes, while an optional new, low-friction six-speed automatic transmission can be paired with the 1.6L SIDI Turbo engine in the vehicles.
