Amazon Is Making It Easier for Developers in Some European Countries

Amazon is making it easier for developers in some European countries to get paid for selling their apps on the Amazon Appstore, the company said in a blog post on Wednesday.

Developers will now have payments electronically transferred to their bank accounts in local currency where possible.

Amazon launched its Appstore in the U.K., Germany, France, Italy and Spain on Aug. 30. Developers can receive electronic payments in all those countries except Italy.

Developers in Belgium and Portugal can also get paid electronically, while developers in the Nordic countries will have to make do with checks, which are not very common in that part of the world.

Amazon's app store, which competes directly with Google's Play store, was launched in the U.S. last year.

For users with Android-based smartphones it provides an alternative source for applications from a trusted brand to Google's Play store, Tim Shepherd, senior mobile analyst at Canalys, said earlier this year. Amazon curates apps more carefully than Google, which has benefits when it comes to security, he said.
