Visy, in partnership with Byron Bay Brewery, has developed a new PET beer bottle that utilises proprietary PET bottle technology to ensure an extended shelf life, while maintaining the freshness and integrity of the beer.
The new Byron Bay beer bottle was developed to address the growing number of glassing incidents across Australia, and also the introduction of new liquor licensing laws that ban the serving of glass after midnight at key venues, according to ferret.com.au.
The new bottle, which allows for 12% more volume of beer per bottle, weighs 32.7g, which is said to be 86.9% lighter than conventional glass bottles, with a case being around 4kg lighter than a comparable case in glass.
To put in a nutshell, this PET bottle does away with the risk of glassing and breakage during manufacturing/transport, while passing on environmental benefits due to its significant reduction in weight.
