Toumaz has completed the acquisition of Frontier Silicon.
Toumaz,a developer of specialist medical sensors and low power wireless chips,announced in July it had agreed to acquire Frontier Silicon,the digital radio chipset developer for around 32.3m pounds.
This is the latest and largest expanison of the Abingdon,Oxfordshire-based Toumaz semiconductor business.At the start of the year Toumaz created a new wireless IC business,called Toumaz Microsystems,with help of multimedia processor intellectual property firm Imagination Technologies.
According to Toumaz CEO,Anthony Sethill,combining Toumaz's wireless ICs with the software systems,commercial expertise and customer access of Frontier will create a major wireless semiconductor supplier.
"The new enlarged Group is already the global leader in digital radio solutions,having shipped over 17 million chip sets to date,"said Sethill.
"Our professional healthcare offering continues to be a key focus for the group with clear market needs to be addressed.Up to 87%of hospitals in the US have stated an interest in installing wireless monitoring technology in the next two to five years,"said Sethill.
The Toumaz"Sensium Vitals"monitoring solution has FDA approval and will shortly start pilots in the US.
Other target sectors include sport and fitness and consumer electronics sectors.
"By 2016,the global market for wireless sports and fitness monitoring devices is forecast at 120 million units and the opportunity to leverage our healthcare capabilities into the consumer arena is significant,"said Sethill.
The company also has Imagination Technologies as a partner and shareholder.
