Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo has unveiled the pedestrian and cyclist detection technology with full auto brake at the ongoing 2013 Geneva Motor Show.
The technology is claimed to use the rapid vision processing to detect the cyclists turning sharply in front of the car and automatically applies the brakes.
Scheduled to be made available in May 2013, the technology will be installed in the company's V40, S60, V60, XC60, V70, XC70 and S80 models.
The technology consists of a radar unit integrated into the car's grille to detect and calculate distance of the objects in front of the car, a camera will be fitted in front of the interior rear-view mirror to assess the type of the object and a central control unit to monitor and evaluate the traffic.
Volvo also launched the new V40 with a manual D2 version that generates an output of 115hp, with CO2 emissions of 88g/km and offering fuel consumption of 83.1mpg at the motor show.
The company has also showcased the new versions of its S60, V60, XC60, V70, XC70, S80 and the Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid in Geneva.
