300, 000 Vehicles Will Be Recalled by General Motors in US

American automaker General Motors (GM) has issued a voluntary recall on 300,000 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra vehicles of certain model year 2014 in the US, due to problem with the engine and engine cooling systems.

Both vehicles are equipped with 4.3L or 5.3L engines. According to the company, while the vehicle is idling in cold temperatures, the exhaust components can overheat.

As a result, the overheated exhaust components may melt nearby plastic parts and may result in an engine fire.

Dealers of the carmaker will reprogram the engine control module, free of charge. The company will notify the owners of the affected vehicles regarding this recall. The recall is expected to begin in late January 2014.

Earlier in November 2013, GM also issued a voluntary recall of around 57,605 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles in the US.
