Tmmin Has Opened Its Second Car Manufacturing Plant in Karawang Built at a Cost of $340m

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), the Indonesian subsidiary of Toyota Motor has opened its second car manufacturing plant in Karawang built at a cost of $340m.

Toyota said the new plant, which is adjacent to the existing plant in Karawang, will produce Etios Valco, a compact hatchback designed specifically for Indonesian consumers.

Initial production capacity of the new plant will be approximately 70,000 units per year and employ about 1,100 people.

The company plans to increase production capacity to 120,000 units at the beginning of next year, increasing the total production at Karawang to more than 250,000 units per year.

TMMIN president Masahiro Nonami said, "The plant incorporates advanced production technology, designed to be both eco-friendly and worker friendly, including many ideas from our Indonesian employees."

Toyota Motor's existing plant at the site has been operating since 1998 and produces 110,000 units per year.
