Voith Has Been Successful in Securing Contracts in Small Hydro Business in South America

Just at the end of the year, Voith has again been successful in securing contracts in its small hydro business in South America: There, the company has been awarded to contracts for the erection of hydro power plants in the small hydro segment.

The project in Brazil is to provide an additional small hydro unit for the extension of the existing Santo Antonio do Jari hydropower plant and will be conducted as a turnkey solution. The scope of supply includes the Kaplan-S turbine, the generator, the automation as well as the electrical and mechanical balance-of-plant-systems. The additional capacity for the power plant amounts to 3.4 MW.

For the San Miguel small hydro power plant in Colombia, Voith will supply two turbines with a combined capacity of 45.8 MW, the generators, protection valves, speed governors and voltage regulators, as well as the complete automation system. In addition to the supply, Voith will also be responsible for the erection and commissioning supervision services. The project will contribute to the region s growth and will also be interconnected with the national grid. Furthermore, minimal environmental impact will be caused since the project will be implemented as a run-of-the-river plant with mitigating actions established by the customer.

„Aspects such as technical expertise and reputation in project management, as well as reliability and the suitable solution delivered within the necessary timeframe and trust in our company enabled Voith Hydro to win the contract for the plant, in an extremely competitive business“, states Osvaldo San Martin, President & CEO of Voith Hydro in Brazil.
