Central-Epicure Food Products, a Canadian establishment, is voluntarily recalling Gefilte Fish as it may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
The products associated with the recall include 600g Central-Epicure Gefilte Fish, Ready to serve, as well as 600g Sweet and Central-Epicure Gefilte Fish, Ready to serve, Savoury bearing UPC codes 0 61279 00440 3 and 0 61279 00442 7 respectively with Best Before dates up to and including 9 April 2013.
CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall, which is classified as a Class 1 health hazard alert.
No illnesses have been reported associated with the recall.
Consumption of the products contaminated with Clostridium botulinum may cause botulism, a life-threatening illness, due to the toxins produced by it.
