Austin Tri-Cyclist Is Expanding to a Second Location in The Texas Capital

Triathlon specialty retailer Austin Tri-Cyclist is expanding to a second location in the Texas capital, home to several major tri events.

The new store in Davenport Village, located on Highway 360, a busy cycling route, will have 6,500 square feet of retail space, a full service department and fit area. It will also house a vintage bike museum that includes one of the first Quintana Roo tri bikes and, according to manager Adam Stroobandt, the only Cervélo mountain bike in the world.

An open service area, with four work stations surrounded by a bar serving non-alcoholic drinks, will anchor the space. Cyclists plying Highway 360 can pop in for on-the-spot minor repairs, Stroobandt said.

Owned by Don and Missy Ruthven, Austin Tri-Cyclist carries bikes from Cervélo, Cannondale, Quintana Roo, Litespeed, Fuji and Kestrel, as well as wetsuits and swimwear from such brands as Aquasphere, 2XU and Highway 19, Zoot running shoes and a full selection of tri apparel.

“Austin is definitely one of the biggest tri towns. We have three tris that get at least 3,000 people,” Stroobandt said.

Austin Tri-Cyclist will have a grand opening party the evening of Feb. 9 that will benefit Bike Austin, a nonprofit advocacy organization promoting better policy decisions and added resources to increase the number of cyclists in the Austin area.
