Audi Has Commissioned The New EUR900m Expanded Car Manufacturing Plant in Gyor

German carmaker Audi has commissioned the new EUR900m expanded car manufacturing plant in Gyor, Hungary, bringing the overall investments in Gyor to EUR5.7bn.

The new plant, which increases the overall floor space of Audi Hungaria to about four million square meter, incorporates press, body and paint shops in addition to assembly lines.

Audi CEO Rupert Stadler said the newly expanded plant supports the company's growth strategy and strengthens international competitiveness.

"With the expansion of our plant in Hungary, Audi Hungaria has developed into an important pillar of our worldwide production network," Stadler said.

Audi has also started the production of new A3 Sedan at the new facility, which makes it the first model to be built at the new assembly lines.

The new facility, together with the German carmaker's engine and vehicle assembly plant in Ingolstadt, will produce TT Coupe, TT Roadster, A3 Cabriolet and the RS 3 Sportback models, which would allow manufacturing a complete Audi in Hungary.

Audi claims the new expanded facility will increase its production capacity in Gyor to about 125,000 units per year compared to 33,500 units in 2012.
