Automotive technology developer Delphi is planning to market its Vehicle-to-Infrastructure and Vehicle-to-Vehicle communication technology.
The new technology will be an extension of its existing technology, and it will use Radio signals to transmit data from one car to the other in order to alert drivers of potential road hazards and blocks that are beyond sight and vehicles sensor range.
The new V2V technology will be designed to send radio signals from cars that have already encountered a hurdle to warn other drivers, so that they can change the rout.
Delphi Automotive chief technology Officer Jeff Owens said: "The ability to detect and signal to the driver of danger ahead is a significant leap toward improving driver safety and traffic management.
"This technology also strategically positions Delphi to help automakers meet potential government regulations related to V2V communications for automated driving."
The company said it will supply the connectivity technology to a major automaker which will allow cars to talk with one another and provide drivers critical traffic information. According to reports GM will use the technology in its 2017 Cadillac CTS.
